Going along the Tien River upstream, visitors will visit Ngu Hiep commune in Cai Lay district leads the province in area and output of fruits. The commune has 1,600 hectares under fruit trees, mostly durian with an average productivity of 20-25 tonnes a hectare, yielding 24,000 tonnes a year. In average, farmers earn around VND 120 million from a hectare of durian. With aid from the Southern Fruit Research Institute farmers have developed high-quality varieties of durian including Mong Thong and Ri 6.
